Weight Transfer

Weight transfer is not a step. It is a process through which body mass is received, reorganised and released through changing support.

Weight transfer is often named at the moment one foot replaces another. A change of foot, however, does not show whether body mass has been fully received by the new support.

Within this study, transfer is observed as body mass leaves one organisation of support and becomes available to another. Attention remains with how the new Supporting Leg, pressure, ground and Vertical Spine relate through the changing base.

The possible relationship between Weight Transfer and Settle remains under study. The question is whether transfer can be considered complete when the previous support releases, or whether completion depends on how organisation continues into the next action.

Principle

A change of foot does not necessarily mean that weight transfer has completed.

Movement Reading

Organisation

This study follows how body mass may be received, reorganised and released through changing support rather than treating transfer only as a mechanical change of foot.

Embodied Experience

The previous support may release as the new support becomes available.

Perception

The current observation is that continuity may depend on how changes of support are resolved through the whole body.

Research Question

When does weight transfer actually begin and when is it complete?
